Not my photo - it's twobitme's from flickr.I went in to Berry Chill with really high expectations because of their PR blitz (including a self-serving, but ultimately deleted, Wikipedia entry and several glowing comments on Yelp and this very blog) and I must admit that my expectations were met. I really enjoyed Berry Chill, although my favorite frozen yogurt is still Indianapolis's Yogokiss.
Pros:
The original flavor was a dead ringer for Pinkberry's formula.
The array of toppings was fantastic.
I think I was served a lot more than my requested 12 ounces.
An employee was handing out samples to patrons waiting in the (long) line.
The space - especially the counter area - was aesthetically pleasing.
Cons:
The bowl was too small to hold the toppings in.
The strawberries, blackberries, and raspberries were really syrupy, unlike Pinkberry's.

I was soooooo looking forward to trying Berry Chill in Chicago (have to go for business in a couple of weeks.) I always get Pinkberry with Strawberries and Fruity Pebbles (heaven!), but I hate syrupy fruit....what a bummer!
p.s. I was in Tampa a couple of months ago and had CaliYogurt (a teeny, tiny chain out of Cali) and I must admit, I liked it better than Pinkberry....creamy but very tart and soooo good! If you have the chance to try CaliYogurt, give it a try :-)
Samantha, have you taken your Chicago business trip yet?
Thank you for the scoop on CaliYogurt - hopefully they will open more locations. As I try more yogurt, I definitely realize Pinkberry has some stiff competition!
Hi Chloe,
I went to Berry Chill a few weeks ago and LOVED it! I thought their yogurt was really good (the plain) and their array of toppings was amazing. I was hesitant when I read your review that the fruit was syrupy, but I got strawberries (and later pineapple) and they were wonderfully fresh....and they loaded the cup with the toppings. The shop is way cute and they are doing an awesome job of branding.
After hearing rumors about a possible Ann Arbor, Michigan location, I emailed the owner of Berry Chill who confirmed that one will be opening in Ann Arbor in 2009! Woo Hoo! I seriously can hardly wait. Until then....road trips to Chicago ;-)
p.s. While in Chicago, I tried Yogen Fruz at Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg and thought their yogurt was really good, too. Tart, but creamier than Berry Chill (and Pinkberry). Yogen Fruz was waaaaaaay too skimpy on the toppings (I almost made a comment, but decided to shut up and enjoy my yogurt instead).
Samantha, thank you so much for the thorough report. I'm glad Berry Chill seems to have nixed the syrupy fruit. 2009 isn't so far away, either - that's great news!
there is a place in cincinnati that is called Yagoot! Its the greatest frozen yogurt I have ever tasted! maybe you guys should take a road trip to cincy! their fruit is super fresh and the yogurt is deliciously tingly tart!
